This kind of performance is singing stories accompanied by gong and drum with acrobatics. It came into being around Qing Dynasty and was popular in countryside in Sichuan. The performer holds three sticks or knives or forks. When singing the stories, he throws two into the air and keeps one in hand and tries to catch one from the air and throw the one in hand into the air. Those three sticks are thrown into the air and caught by the actor’s hand in turn. After 1960s, Sichuan Huagu died out. Occasionally it can be seen in some remote areas. |
